SALTech has recently transitioned thereby changing its name
to reflect the new direction of the school. The Board of Directors (BOD) hosted
the year-end celebration for the staff of SALTech Charter High School at the
Hyatt Hotel. It was the perfect
ending to a year of outstanding success for the Board and staff.
The charter high school is located on 29 acres at the
Jacksonville Job Corps Center on the northside: 4811 Payne Stewart Drive,
32209. SALTech Principal, Michael
LaRoche, served as Master of Ceremonies. The faculty and staff presented him
with an eagle: the school's new logo which is symbolic of the soaring heights
on which the school is focused. Members of the staff were given accolades and
congratulatory gifts for their outstanding service to students.
The Jacksonville Job Corps Center is a career technical
training facility funded by the federal government and accepts students ages
16-24. SALTech educates Job Corps and public school students, as they have an
opportunity to earn a High School Diploma or a General Equivalent Diploma
(GED).
Some unique characteristics of the Jacksonville SALTech
campus include the ability to work at your own pace, the availability of
Alternative Assessment for Exit Exams, and an upcoming TV Production
curriculum.

commitment to the students and staff. As
expressed by Mrs. Tukes, the purpose of the SALTech Charter High School is to
improve student learning and academic achievement, and to enable students who
have dropped out of school or likely to drop out of school an opportunity to
earn a high school diploma or GED. Students are sometimes referred by Duval
County Public School (DCPS) to SALTech.
Former Jacksonville Job Corps Center Director, Mr. Kenderson Hill, praised the Principal, BOD,
and the staff for their continuous leadership and commitment to
excellence. Mr. Hill had been at the helm
of the center for the past 2 years and welcomes the change.
